To Our Patients,

We understand and deeply respect that you may be concerned about coronavirus in public places, even at our state-of-the-art sterilized office.

Our first priority is always the health and well-being of our patients. And that is a priority we take extremely seriously, even with the current disruptions we’re all experiencing.

It has been a very difficult decision, but we have decided that it is in the best interest of our community, our team, and our patients that we not see regular patients until further notice.

If you do have a scheduled appointment, we will be reaching out to you directly to get you rescheduled to a future date.

This is just one more way that we can show our high level of care for you … and for everyone in our community. We very much look forward to seeing you, your family, and your friends very soon.

As always, if you have any questions, please call our office at 203-349-3537.

Sincerely,

Stop Snoring, Breathe Easier, & Enjoy Good Sleep

October 15, 2020

There’s just something about a good night’s sleep. You wake up feeling rested and refreshed. You are ready to tackle what the day has in store for you. On the other hand, a night of bad sleep leaves you feeling drained and exhausted before you get moving.

For people with sleep apnea, good sleep can be difficult. Also, their snoring can make it hard for the people sleeping on the other side of the bed or even down the hall to get quality sleep, too.

If you or someone you care about might have sleep apnea, then it’s time to call 203-349-3537. Schedule a consultation with Dr. Pablo Cuevas at Fairfield Smiles By Design.

Better Sleep From A Dentist

Sleep dentistry has become more common especially as it relates to obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), which is the most common form of this sleep disorder. At our office in Fairfield, CT, we are prepared to do our part so you can get the rest you need and deserve.

When someone has OSA. their airway becomes blocked when they fall asleep. This can happen for a variety of reasons, but generally, the opening of the airway slowly closes as they drift off to sleep. When the airway closes completely, the person with OSA will stop breathing. The brain responds to this by waking up the person so they will take a breath. Often this is so brief that the person has no memory of this. These kinds of stoppages can happen hundreds of times each night depending on the severity of their condition.

To help you or your loved one stay asleep, you need a way to keep breathing. One option is a CPAP machine. This involves wearing a mask, having air forced into your airway, and being OK with the sound of the machine. We mentioned those issues because our patients have said they were reasons they could not use their CPAPs.

The dental solution involves making a custom-fitted oral appliance that you wear while you sleep. This works by changing the resting position of your lower jaw in a way that keeps your airway open. This allows you to breathe freely and stay asleep long enough to reach the stages of deep sleep that health experts say we all need.

It’s About More Than Sleep

We’ve already mentioned that loud and persistent snoring is one of the most common symptoms of obstructive sleep apnea. This is more annoying for the people who live with a person who has sleep apnea. However, this also can leave both people feeling sleep deprived. That can lead to irritability and can affect their relationship over time.

Sleep apnea also leaves the body in a state of stress. This can increase blood pressure. It also helps explain why people with untreated sleep apnea are more likely to experience cardiovascular disease, heart attacks, and strokes.

Deep sleep gives your body the opportunity to recuperate from the day’s activities. It’s why you feel so different when you have a night of good sleep compared to a night of bad sleep.

Get Some Rest

Quit struggling to get the healthy sleep you need and deserve. Schedule a consultation at our office to discover what we can do for you. Call Fairfield Smiles By Design at 203-349-3537 to request an appointment in Fairfield, CT.

The dentist there is a really nice, warm chap and the staff are professional and equally welcoming - BUT - and this may be a US dentist thing, $365 (after insurance) to glue a bridging crown back in, seems wildly excessive to me - so I bought some dental cement from Amazon for $40.
